StretchingI cried today. I cried for all the days that will never be the same, And the days that will be. I cried for the changes in my life, And the constances in my life. I had thought that everything would be better After I had abandoned everything that once was me. But I had not counted on this thing. The thing that ties people to others. I cried today for everything I left behind. No matter how far I am from everyone else I am still connected to them. The connection however is stretched over miles And it's like being put on the rack. As My Grandmother Dies As the moon awakens I travel the hour to a hospital that is foreign to me. I walk through the back door and past the nurses station. The phrase, “visiting hours are over,” does not apply to me. I walk down the hall to a door that is different from the rest of the white ones. It’s different because behind this one my grandmother lays on the brink of death. I stand in front of this door with my hand above the knob and inhale deeply, preparing myself for the sight I’m about to see.
